Emerge Louisiana to host Second Annual Graduation Event
Emerge Louisiana’s Mission: To Recruit, Train and Provide a Powerful Network for Democratic Women Who Want to Run for Office

New Orleans, LA. — Emerge Louisiana, the premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office in the state, will host an event to celebrate the graduation of the 2019 class on Saturday, June 22 in New Orleans.

The Graduation Ceremony will celebrate the accomplishments of the class members’ completion of 70 hours of in-depth candidate training over six-months. The 21 class members traveled to a Louisiana city each month and heard from experts on the topics of fundraising, voter contact, media relations and much more.

The class becomes the second cohort of Louisiana women to complete this premiere candidate training in the State. These women are not “waiting their turn.” Six have already launched campaigns for public office. The 2019 class members are actively running for State House, State Senate, School Board, Judicial, and US Congressional seats.

“I have an untapped passion that is pulling me toward political service. I joined Emerge to learn more about public offices, how and where I could best serve, and in what capacity,” says Emerge Louisiana 2019 class member Erica Martinez of New Orleans. “I am using this time to develop my understanding of the political processes and be a part of the changes in our communities by supporting candidates with integrity who are focused on serving the people they represent.”

Fellow Class of 2019 member Tracy Antee comments, “Emerge Louisiana is the perfect opportunity for me to create a strong foundation, engage with empowered women and be fully prepared to serve my community. The bond of sisterhood and the knowledge from this program will provide me with all the tools I need to succeed.”

Emerge Louisiana launched in October 2017 as the 19th state in the Emerge national network. Emerge and its state affiliates have trained more than 5,000 women to run for office since 2002. Emerge alumnae across the country have won more the 1,000 elections to date and hold office at every level of government. In 2018 five Emerge alumnae were elected to Congress. Emerge does not endorse candidates and does not have an issue-based litmus test. Our mission is clear: to recruit, train and support Democratic women who want to run for office.

Emerge Louisiana continues to build the bench of capable and qualified women candidates ready to serve their communities. There are 70 Emerge-trained women in the state today. The organization expects more than 20 graduates will qualify for the October elections. Emerge Louisiana alumnae hail from 24 cities across the state.

Those delivering remarks during the ceremony include members of the 2019 Class, Democratic elected officials and Party leaders on the local state and national levels; as well as leaders from the Emerge network.

The Graduation Ceremony is open to the press and free to attend. RSVPs are required: http://bit.ly/emergegraduation
