Read moreLieutenant Colonel Tammy Savoie received a direct commission in the Air Force in 1994. She earned a PhD in clinical psychology from Emory University, Atlanta, GA, an MS in experimental psychology and BA in psychology from the University of New Orleans and a MBA from Touro University. Prior to her commission in the US Air Force, Lt Col Savoie served in the Air National Guard as an enlisted member, Law Enforcement/Security Forces Specialist for 15 years. She retired from the United States Air Force as the Chief, International Health, Command Surgeon’s Office, Air Force Central Command, Shaw AFB, South Carolina where she supported the AFCENT Commander and Command Surgeon. Lt Col Savoie served as the senior advisor for international and trans-cultural health care strategies to include liaising with our partners in the Middle East. She was AFCENT’s lead for the Medical Theater Security Cooperation Program for 20 nations. In addition, Lt Col Savoie served as the AFCENT Command Surgeon’s Mental Health consultant and provided direct support to clinical operations. Her other assignments include the Joint Staff, J-4/Health Services Support Division, as Chief, Research & Clinical Operations and Chief, Strategy Branch. She was lead on major international agreements and US NATO medical efforts. As a senior advisor to Joint Staff Surgeon she guided research which informed joint force health protection doctrine, plans and programs. She deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Joint Mental Health Advisory Team where she was the lead for the theater wide assessment of behavioral health service. She was previously assigned to the Air Force Research Laboratory as the Deputy Commander, European Office of Aerospace Research and Development and Chief, Life Science and Human Effectiveness, London, UK. As EOARD’s Life Science Portfolio manager, she connected the Middle East, Russia, and Europe’s scientific communities with AF researchers. She also served as the Chief, Biobehavioral Performance Branch, Brooks City-Base, TX where she was responsible for leading a $50M Science and Technology effort. As Deputy Program Manager of the Theater Medical Information Program, she assisted in directing 25 staffers and 300 contract personnel in developing a DoD-wide integrated suite of automated medical system solutions to support war fighters in operational theatres of conflict. She was the Deputy Squadron Commander and Flight Commander for the 47th Medical Operations Squadron and Life Skills Flight, at Laughlin AFB, TX where she ran the Life Skills Clinic, providing outpatient care to Air Force beneficiaries. Other assignments have included Substance Abuse element leader at Kadena AB, Japan and Chief of Psychological Services at Maxwell AFB, AL where in addition to providing outpatient mental health care, she served as a forensic psychological consultant. Currently she is an adjunct faculty member with the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, New Orleans Campus. In Dr. Savoie’s spare time, she has assisted in launching the first military – civilian Critical Incident Stress Team. She also volunteers with the American Red Cross, Court Watch, and is a member of advocacy groups supporting basic human rights.
